Hiking & Biking
With an abundance of forest land, Marquette offers a breadth of biking and hiking trails to get out into the outdoors with ease, no matter your skill level. Known for its iron ore, Marquette County showcases its history with interpretive trails like the Iron Ore Heritage Trail. This 47-mile multi-use trail is great for walks, running, biking, and more. With views of the Superior shoreline, informational signage, and urban areas along the way, there’s something to be enjoyed by all.
Hike up to Sugarloaf Mountain, a moderate 1.2 mi trail with panoramic views from the top of Lake Superior and many of Marquette's most popular attractions, including the Superior Dome, Presque Isle Park, Little Presque Isle, Hogsback Mountain, and more. Interested in chasing waterfalls? Morgan Falls is a quick 2.8-mile hike. The trailhead to Morgan Falls also offers biking trails for those looking for more thrill.
Water Sports
When you have the world’s largest freshwater lake in your backyard, there are no shortage of ways to experience it—from strolling the sandy coves tucked along its rocky shores to diving off the ancient cliffs that tower above it.
With 83 miles of Lake Superior shoreline—plus 150 streams and nearly 300 other bodies of water—there are plenty of opportunities for kayaking and paddling, fishing, or just exploring the beautiful beaches.

Outdoor activity doesn't slow down during winter months in the U.P.—There are plenty of opportunities to get out and experience our unique, snowy landscapes.
Be sure to check out the slopes and get in a few runs at Marquette Mountain. Explore the area’s designated trails aboard a snowmobile for backcountry fun.
